Overview

Problem Statement

The looming threat of recession and rapidly increasing financial pressures are putting a strain on society, and more people turning to the idea of roommates to cut costs and ease burdens. Adults are finding, however, that living with roommates can be challenging, even for the best communicators.

Solution

Create an app that makes managing your household and roommate relationships simpler. It should combine the abilities to split bills with ease, organize chores and tasks, and create and share events, all to help foster a seamless and efficient experience in the home.

Survey Insights

After surveying 12 people, I was able to uncover some insights and pain points in each individual's experience with roommates.

Personas

With the insights from the surveying, I moved on to create three personas that described some of the pain points people were feeling with their current situations.

Customize Your Profile

Set up things like wake-up time, whether you're an introvert or extrovert, and more to give your roommates useful insights on how to interact.

Divide the Workload

Manage one-time or recurring household chores with Tasks. Have a set person handle it every time, or use randomizing features to keep things orderly and fair.

Always Stay in the Loop

Use the shared calendar to share social events with your roommates or set recurring events like quiet hours when you need to study. Tags help to reduce conflict issues, and privacy settings allow you to keep all of your events in one place, for your eyes only.

Never Run Out of Eggs

With shared lists, everyone is able to add items as they need to, whether it's for groceries or that party you're planning. Create new list groups and add them to events or tasks, or keep your personal shopping lists handy.

Who Bought It Last Time?

Split any shared transactions with your roommates, with the option to share the split with non-Cohab users. Split things equally to make it simpler, or add line items for that friend that "only had a water."
